Dear CCO Supporters,
As you may well know, the current economic climate has not been kind to small businesses in general, and arts organizations in particular. This, along with the glut of small opera companies and the re-emergence of a grand opera company in Baltimore, has made a successful fundraising campaign for the upcoming season nearly impossible. In our current economic state, we simply cannot support productions that would do the talent of our artists justice. To that end, CCO will be going dark this season as we search for a new home city where we can grow and flourish.
We are so grateful for the support you have shown us during our first two seasons in Baltimore. We are very proud to have been able to feature such talented young artists and we are already seeing the upward career trajectory many of them are enjoying. You can read what Tim Smith, Baltimore Sun critic, had to say about our decision at
This has been an extremely tough decision--one that we hope will lead to a better chance of long-term survival for the company so we can continue to feature top-notch talent at bargain prices. We hope we have shared our love for the art and for the people of Baltimore and we hope to entertain you again.
Sincerely,
Beth Stewart
General Director
